Introduction to the Relationship-Based Care Program Practices

Research tells us that early relationships are key to healthy brain development. These relationships lay the foundation for all future learning and are at the core of quality care for infants and toddlers in group care settings (Sosinsky et al., 2016). The stability and quality of a baby’s relationships with caring adults lay the foundation for their developmental outcomes. Infants and toddlers are influenced by a web of relationships—their relationships with their parent(s) or the caregivers who raise them, family, child care providers and staff, children, and community members.
