These program standards, self-assessment rubric, and resources are designed to help afterschool programs evaluate and improve the support they are providing for youth who are engaged in distance learning.
The purpose of this playbook is to provide a long-term and sustainable framework for planning and executing evidence-based practices and partnerships for high-quality summer programs. It has a user-friendly design and includes sections on quality, safety, policies and funding, planning, and partnerships.
This resource was compiled by School’s Out Washington along with dozens of youth development organizations to advance school-community partnerships as school year begins.
This toolkit includes issue briefs created by the Utah Afterschool on topics such as how to run a safe program, how to find a new location, and how to recruit and retain staff. It also includes links to related resources and a spreadsheet with fall reopening plans for each school district. A related tool is the Align for Success Toolkit about afterschool-school partnerships.
The Afterschool Alliance conducted a survey from May 28-June 30, 2020 to explore what afterschool programs are experiencing during the pandemic. The results show that 84 percent of programs are concerned that they will not be able to provide services in the fall due to increased requirements and 61 percent are concerned they may close permanently.

This toolkit includes resources for training on trauma-informed social-emotional learning in the classroom. There is a PowerPoint slide deck, a workshop facilitator guide, and a supplemental handout. It includes information on ACES and trauma, systemic adversity and historical trauma, concrete and evidence-based strategies on trauma-informed strategies, and educator self-care.
This toolkit features more than 50 adaptable tools, sample documents, tip sheets, and guidance on how to use them drawn from five urban districts and their partners, who formed the National Summer Learning Project. It is organized into five planning areas: (1) staffing, (2) site climate, (3) student recruitment, (4) planning, and (5) academics and enrichment.
