This COVID-19 health guidance for childcare and out-of-school-time care was developed by Vermont and revised in August 2020. It is a cross-sector effort from Department of Health, Agency of Education, and Department for Children and Families to guide both regulated and unregulated child care, including center-based, family-based, summer, recreational, and afterschool programs.
This infographic is designed to assist directors in making decisions about re-opening youth programs and camps during the pandemic. It asks the main questions about re-opening, about health and safety practices, and about continued monitoring of child and staff health. It reminds directors to also check on guidance provided by state and local health officials.
The Afterschool Alliance conducted a survey from May 28-June 30, 2020 to explore what afterschool programs are experiencing during the pandemic. The results show that 84 percent of programs are concerned that they will not be able to provide services in the fall due to increased requirements and 61 percent are concerned they may close permanently.

The interim guidance from the CDC includes important information for schools and child care centers in both English and Spanish. It includes a fact sheet about children and COVID-19 and a document on how to stop the spread of the virus. It was updated March 12, 2020. This resource supports the COVID-19 response.
The national Core Knowledge and Competencies (CKC) establish agreement across programs and funding streams about what professionals need to know and be able to do in a quality program. The CKCs were developed through a crosswalk of existing CKCs from states or independent organizations and then piloted.
Child Care Aware created this web-based school-age program checklist to help families select a high quality school-age program. It has questions on topics like health and safety, indoor and outdoor environment, caregiver-child interactions, staff qualifications, and parent partnerships. There is a link to print out the five-page checklist.
These evidence-based standards foster nutrition and physical activity outcomes for children in grades K-12 attending out-of-school time programs. Originally developed in 2011 and then adopted and disseminated by the National Afterschool Association, the standards were refreshed in 2018.
