These webinars on exploring how data use in out-of-school time can make programs better.
During the pandemic, local community providers pioneered Community Learning Hubs to open their doors to support students that are in hybrid or all virtual schooling. The Afterschool Alliance has created this tool kit based on interviews with 32 programs, intermediaries and schools.
This toolkit is designed to support the development of a strong early childhood (EC) and school-age (SA) workforce. It includes three briefs, a guide, a resource tool, and a webinar that summarizes the briefs and ideas on how to use the Strengthening the EC and SA Workforce Tool.
This report summarizes survey data collected in 2020, both before and during the pandemic; it is the fourth survey, preceded by findings from 2004, 2009, 2014.
This issue brief includes helpful facts on literacy rates among underserved youth. It identifies ways afterschool and summer programs can contribute to literacy development. It includes program examples and ideas for advocacy.
This webinar series explores the importance of trauma-informed and healing-centered approaches in out-of-school time settings and the role they can play in helping youth manage and recover from trauma.
This tool kit provides resources and links to help programs prepare for, respond to, and recover from a disaster or emergency.
This report covers results of a survey of 1,445 providers between September 28-October 7, 2020. Results indicate that more programs are open now than in the spring or summer, although on average they are serving half the children they were serving last fall. The survey also shows that there is unequal access to afterschool for children from low-income families.
The Afterschool Alliance's webpage on COVID-19 offers a rich array of resources to help support Out-of-School Time (OST) system builders, administrators, and practitioners in navigating the challenges of the pandemic as they strive to effectively serve children, families, and providers.
This blog by the National Institute on Out-of-School Time highlights what their research staff learned this past summer about high-quality practices in virtual programs based on conducting observations of more than 200 hours of online academic and general enrichment programming. The focus is on tips for activity design, youth engagement, and technology.
