The episodes focus on developing the capacity of adults to promote SEL, building effective partnerships, the role of coaches, and coordination between school and out-of-school programs. This resource supports the COVID-19 response.
This webinar provides information about how two states are supporting Family, Friend, and Neighbor care (FFN), which has become an especially important part of the child care supply in COVID-19. New Mexico has created a path for temporary FFN care that lasts for 6 months. Providers can serve up to 4 non-residential children and can access subsidy and food programs.
The report and executive summary review lessons learned from the first two years of the Partnership for Social-Emotional Learning Initiative (PSELI). Findings are based on surveys, interviews, and observations from 38 partnerships in 6 sites about the barriers and solutions to school-OST partnerships on SEL.
This report captures what was shared at an October 2019 Conference about the challenges of teaching social and emotional learning (SEL) in afterschool programs. It provides a brief history of the growing focus on SEL, along with a summary of remarks by national leaders.
This webinar explores how leaders and stakeholders in WA developed a vision and conducted a 3-year pilot for creating an accessible, equitable, and high-quality system of programs for school-age and youth development. The webinar shares what was learned about professional development and coaching supports, and standards and assessment tools.
This toolkit features more than 50 adaptable tools, sample documents, tip sheets, and guidance on how to use them drawn from five urban districts and their partners, who formed the National Summer Learning Project. It is organized into five planning areas: (1) staffing, (2) site climate, (3) student recruitment, (4) planning, and (5) academics and enrichment.
This brief identifies evidence-based prevention tools that are low-cost targeted strategies for SEL. These "kernels" of practice are easy to implement and helpful for afterschool and summer programs that would be challenged to bring a full SEL curriculum to scale due to time or financial constraints.
This issue brief provides a summary of research that identifies three dimensions that lead to suspension and expulsion: (1) absence of a deep understanding of child development with staff; (2) implicit bias; and (3) children who need more and different support than can be provided in an educational or early learning setting alone.
This article presents recommendations from the RAND Corporation report, "Getting to Work on Summer Learning." Specifically, it focuses on those recommendations related to the hiring and training of teachers for school district-run summer learning programs.
