Lights On Afterschool is October 25!

Celebrate the 19th annual Lights On Afterschool on Thursday, October 25! Each year the Afterschool Alliance and partners join communities all across America to draw attention to the importance of afterschool programs in the lives of children, families, and communities. There’s lots to celebrate: afterschool programs keep kids safe, inspire them to learn and grow, and give parents peace of mind.

The goal of the National Center on Afterschool and Summer Enrichment (NCASE) is to ensure that school-age children in families of low income have increased access to high-quality afterschool and summer learning experiences that contribute to their overall development and academic achievement. NCASE provides resources to support program providers on key topics for afterschool, including health and safety, quality improvement, and consumer education, such as the School-Age Consumer Education Toolkit.  View the School-Age Care Overview video to learn more about the experiences of families in out-of-school time.

Afterschool programs provide critical supports to parents who need care for their school-age children while they work.  Lights On Afterschool highlights the many ways afterschool programs support children and youth by offering them opportunities to learn new skills and engage with their community. This nationwide event has become a hallmark of the afterschool movement.  Mark your calendar and join the movement!
