Child Care Licensing Community of Practice

The National Center on Early Childhood Quality Assurance (ECQA Center) understands that child care licensing administrators, managers, and supervisors have unique needs and want to communicate with others in similar roles. To connect you with your peers across the country, the ECQA Center, in partnership with the National Association for Regulatory Administration, launched an interactive, online Licensing Community of Practice (LCoP).

The LCoP will help you communicate with, learn from, and share ideas, challenges, strategies, and resources with colleagues from across the country. The LCoP includes a series of facilitated conversations and an online community to promote real-time connections and sharing with peers. The online platform can be used to pose questions, discuss current issues, and foster relationships with colleagues.

Online Community on MyPeers

  • To join, you will first need to complete the MyPeers Registration Form. MyPeers is an online platform that the ECQA Center will use to allow for online collaboration and sharing.
  • Once you complete and submit the registration form, you will receive an email from “MangoApps” in approximately 3–4 business days. This email will contain the URL and your login credentials to MyPeers.
  • After you open a MyPeers account, you can search for our workgroup by typing “Licensing Community of Practice” in the search field.
  • Once you see “Licensing Community of Practice,” you can click the “Open Workgroup” box to enter the next screen and to submit a request to join the workgroup.
  • You will then be prompted to click “Join.” After you click on that link, a request will be sent to the workgroup administrator, and you will be accepted as a member of our new online community.

If this information sounds confusing, or if you need help, staff members are standing by and are eager to assist you as needed. Please contact sarah.kowiak@icf.com if you have questions.

Interactive Calls

The LCoP will host a series of interactive calls with peers and national experts. These 90-minute calls focus on topics identified by LCoP members and include presentations of research findings, data, and national trends. You will also be able to talk about key issues with peers through large- and small-group discussions. Information about dates and registration for the calls is posted on the MyPeers community site.

Possible topics for discussion include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Encouraging the professional development of licensors
  • Building support for licensing
  • Determining licensor caseloads
  • Addressing the needs of new licensing staff
  • Maintaining consistency in enforcement
  • Cooperating with other systems (e.g., quality rating and improvement systems; Child and Adult Care Food Program; and fire, health, subsidy, and prekindergarten).
